由于各國之間是允許別國的人士在當地登記結婚，也就是說在美國領取的結婚證，在中國是承認的，因而別國的人士在中國登記結婚，也是被允許的，境外人士在中國注冊登記結婚，為了避免重婚，中國的受理當局就會要求出具該國的單身證明并經過雙認證。
境外單身證明的類型：
1、未婚證明（Marriage Search Certificate）
2、無配偶聲明書（Affidavit of Single Status）
境外單身證明使館公證認證所需資料：
1、該國的單身證明復印件或者原件
2、申請人的護照復印件以及在國外居留身份證明復印件
3、公證認證申請表
4、配偶死亡的提供配偶死亡證明文件復印件
5、離婚證還需要提供離婚證復印件
境外單身證明使館公證認證辦理步驟：
1、首先把資料準備齊全委托該國當地的公證律師或公證員進行公證
2、其次把公證好之后的文件送往該國的外交部辦理認證
3、*后把文件送往中國駐該國使館辦理認證
境外單身證明使館公證認證辦理所需要的時間通常是15個工作日，加急辦理時間是7個工作日。
